My daughter who is 8 asked for the first time about setting up her own blog.
This posed an interesting problem. She's too young, but equally, we are doing it all the time and she sees it as part of out life and also a necessary part of our adult and future life.
This is a no picture post!!
Only the serious stuff.
As her middle name is Kate and understanding the fact that she loves cakes, if you put this together with the Masterchef trend, it isonly natural that she would look at cakes!!!
Did you pick up the play on letters with Kate and cake??? As an eight year old, this is obvious!!! And, this is not just a daddy joke!!!
Whether she ends up on the culinary path towards immortality or not!, the idea has been planted,
As a future cake taster, she may test recipes, taste cakes and review them from a kids point of view but also from a cooks point of view if she can google a recipe or two!! I think this is both mature and a great idea, lets see how it pans out. She may end up a millionaire, who am I to stop this future online force!
Have your kids reached the age where a blog is possible?
Really, it is not that hard, as you know! Should they be on at a young age, is a blog appropriate for a kid??
I am interested to hear opinions.
My thoughts are that if she is serious and willing to make a commitment to posting regularly, I am happy to invest the time helping her,who knows where it will lead!!!
Let me know your take on this.....

I say go for it. As long as you're there to edit posts before they're published, and filter any unnecessary comments (or have comments turned off, if you feel, but I think that is all part of the blogging experience) she can't go wrong. I think it's great to hear kids opinions on things - too often they don't get the platform to express themselves, but a blog is great for that.
ReplyDeleteI think its a great age to start. Blogging is a fantastic way to get kids writing. Mine unfortunately dislike writing but a lot of my friends children have blogs, which were initially only opened to invited readers then as they grew to everyone. You can also allow them to post on your own blog or vice versa (having several writers) and moderate the comments etc before the kids see them. Regardless of age, I think if you set a few safety rules in place she should be fine.
ReplyDeleteI think if she's asking to blog and you give her some guidance it would be an excellent opportunity to practice her writing and spelling skills as well as giving her a creative outlet for all her ideas. So go for it and share the experience with her.
ReplyDeleteI'd be tempted to set her up with a login for your blog, and 'her' blog can be her posts on your blog :) Safe for everyone then :)
ReplyDeleteI say give her a chance... Show her the ropes and she's on her way to become a blogger...

I would say give her a chance children feel secure if parents trust them
ReplyDeleteI would let her give it a try. I think she may need some basic rules established, then see how she does. It would be a good life lesson I would think!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your comments and encouragement! She has now set up her blog and is loving it!:
